ruby tailed/jewel wasp...

I was delighted to find these wonderful glittering creatures at Old Moor today. They are also know as a 'cuckoo' wasp because the female wasp lays her eggs in the nests of solitary bees and wasps. When these eggs hatch they eat the larvae of the nest that they are in..... nice! I have invented a new species name for them....rhinestone encrusted glittering disco sp. :)
