horns of wilmington's cow

Not so misty isle

Waking to the expected banging on the window from a hooded crow (we'd been warned by the owners this may happen, and they've yet to come to a solution), and even more expected wind and rain, we started planning a trip to galleries and the like in an effort to stay dry.

Then the occasional blue patch made itself known. Then they joined together. Then the rain stopped. A nice short walk was therefore the answer, to ease into the daily dose of outdoors, and we headed to Rubha nam Braithrean (Brothers Point) (spotting a pair of White Tailed Eagles en route, who sadly moved higher and further away as I got the big lens out). It turned into a pleasant meander of a few miles, even though we had to be jacketed against the wind, and there was time for some rockpooling after visiting the point (from where this pic was taken looking back South, the Old Man a teeny pinprick in there).

We'd managed to bypass the hordes heading up to the Storr, and had this particular walk virtually to ourselves. With a little time to spare coming back we carried on by the Shed and out to Neist Point, but the place was hooching, with a couple of dozen cars and a couple of small tour buses. Not the busy side of things we're ever here for. Back to the Shed with rain threatening again, to listen to cuckoos (got some nice shots of one in the morning) and relax looking out on the northernmost Macleod's Table that dominates the huge window.

p.s. Belgians seem to have taken over from the Dutch as the nationality least likely to give you a wave of thanks if you pull into a passing place.
