Not over yet...
There was a little problem with the plumbing, a small leak. I called Anthony, who called his man in Staithes who got right to work on it while we had our Blipmeet yesterday. When we came back to the house, a little weary and very happy, there was a card and a package of chocolates--from "the Builder" and we stood dumbstruck. Such kindness! Such thoughtfulness. Is this how people in Yorkshire always behave? Speechless with appreciation.
And then today a reminder, again, of fragility, impermanence. A person standing at the harbour on a perfect day, wind blowing and sun blazing, suffered sudden cardiac arrest. A helicopter and ambulance arrived, a team of medics tried to save him, and they took him away. We wished him well and imagined how shocking and difficult it must be for those who loved him. We bowed our heads in gratitude that today was not our day, not yet.
Dinner with Folkie and Spokes, wonderful eating and talking, and they brought us a copy of Northern ReSisters: Conversations with Radical Women, by Bernadette Hyland. Role models, every one of them.
