Railways in our blood

This is one of a series of metal sculptures in Darlington's Eastbourne Park celebrating the town's history.

This commemorates the importance of the railways to the town. Darlington was one of the birthplaces of the railways with the Stockton & Darlington railway providing the first scheduled passenger service in the world in 1825.

For the next 140 years, Darlington was one of the railway workshops of the world, building and repairing many of the great steam locomotives.
