Joan the Mountaineer

This is my late wife Joan in the Austrian Silvretta region.
The peak in the background is the Piz Buin and we were on our way up to the hut with the intention of climbing the mountain next day depending on good weather.

Next day it snowed heavily so we had to go down, it was early in the climbing season.

This is near the Austrian/Swiss frontier and there was a section of the Austrian mountain troops in the hut.  When we entered they all stood up, Joan was the only woman in the place.
