The lost village of Acebuchal.
During the Spanish Civil War this tiny village in the mountains was removed from the maps by Franco's Nationalist Government. They assisted the partisans hidden in the hills round about, many of whom would have been relatives and in order to make this impossible the village was emptied and destroyed and all inhabitants sent to live along the Andalucian Coast. In the eighties one of the sons of a former villager returned and started to restore the buildings. It is now very picturesque and a centre for walkers and an out of the way spot for tourists. We spent the morning painting there and had lunch in the only restaurant in the village. There are no shops, only two streets.
