Free Ride

First full day in New York. We were up and about at a good time and after a hearty breakfast we took the subway to the site of 9/11 and the recently opened Freedom Tower. We spent a good while at the monuments to all the lives lost. It is ifficult to describe the scene to do it justice. Two large square "fountains" sit in the locations where the fallen towers sat, the water cascading through levels further and further into the ground. Each is surrounded by a plinth with the names of all the lives lost at the World Trade Centre and all other locations on 9/11 together with those lives lost from the emergency services. it's very moving.

We then took the ride up to the observation level in the a Freedom Tower. This only opened in April but gives amazing views of the city. We didn't want to leave, would be well worth a dusk or night visit.

After that we headed to the Statten Island ferry and took the free ride over and back again, a great way to view the city and see the Statue of Liberty. The blip is the classic city view from the rear of the ferry.

This evening a quick meet up with the soon to be bride and groom whose wedding we will be attending on Wednesday together with a few family members. We then went for dinner in the revolving restaurant in the Marriott Marque hotel just off Times Square.

Time for a rest now.
