On call

Because the mobile phone coverage round here is so poor, we are trialling these radios.
Guess what? Yes, the radio reception in the village is rubbish as well.
So as you try to sleep with the radio by the bed, every so often it bleeps to announce it has lost signal and a few minutes later it bleeps again to say it has reconnected.
Then control comes on asking for assistance from any unit as they haven't got any ambulances or paramedics left.
Needless to say the radio is not popular.
They wouldn't be necessary if the phone companies allowed emergency services to use roaming like you do when you go abroad.
Then we'd have reception all over our area.
