Clifford's Tower York

Built on the motte of the original Norman fortifications in York, the tower has some turbulent history. The most dramatic being the collective suicide of some Jews in the late 12th century when, to avoid being killed by a mob, took refuge in the Tower and around 150 were killed. History can be brutal!
