Herculaneum
We started our day with a trip to Herculaneum. About a 1/4 of the size of Pompeii, but in my opinion a bit more interesting. That could just be that a greater percentage of it seemed open to look around and there were fewer people there! Most moving was the great number of skeletons in the boat houses who died trying to shelter from the eruption (the arches at the bottom of the photo are these boat-houses),
After making sure we'd been in every building and seen everything of note we headed to Oplontis, a smaller ancient town. Unfortunately it was closed but we got a view from above.
Next we visited the antiquarium in Boscerale where we saw lots of interesting pieces which had been removed from the archeological sites.
Then this evening we were treated to another thunder storm!
