Primula Vialii, Maxwell Park

To be found in the George Forrest Memorial Bed in Maxwell Park. Also known as the Orchid Primrose.  One of over 50 species of primula George Forrest introduced to Britain.   Not that easy to photograph, as the Parks Department put a thick steel fence around the bed a year or two ago.  I guess it is to protect the plants, but it really does limit the enjoyment.

Scottish plant hunter and explorer George Forrest made seven expeditions to China between 1902 and 1932, with the support of many rich gardening enthusiasts, including Sir John Stirling Maxwell of Pollok. His most significant and popular plant introduction was his collection of Rhododendron species which we enjoy locally around this park and in profusion in Pollok Country Park.

I must record it was a beautiful, warm and sunny day in Glasgow.
