Down To The Waterline

We cycled to Bonifacio this morning. The old part of the City is a towering citadel, built by the Genoese in the twelfth century. In fact the whole of Corsica is heavily defended and there are little towers every few miles along the coast up on the cliff tops.
Apparently Corsica had a taste of independence for fifteen years, then in 1769 the Genoese sold it to Louis XV of France for 40 million Francs. Bargain!
Anyway the Corsicans have had a bit of a love/ hate relationship with the French ever since.
We walked up onto the highest part of the Citadel to take photos looking down at the limestone cliffs and I liked the colour of the algae which has formed along the waterline. And I liked the little seagull playing in the wind.
Then we had moules and frites, and after that we cycled to the nearest beach and went swimming and snorkelling, my new found favourite occupation!
