Another first...
I've had a pretty good day today. Good at work, I got to come home for lunch, the afternoon went well, webinar went well, got home before 6pm (wey hey), nice evening meal of bacon quiche and then. . .
G & I raced to get ready to head off for this Salvation Army service which we became aware of last week. It was in town, close to the church where I'd been going since 1984, and thankfully, there wasn't much traffic getting there, so we were there in no time. It is held - as the picture shows - at the Norwegian Seaman's Mission, a place I haven't been in since 1990 when I went to the best party ever with my youth group. It happened to be on the day Iraq invaded Kuwait, but that's another story. [The party had been planned well before any of the dramatic events of the day.]
Anyway, back to my story... G & I were actually the first there - at 7:25! The Minister and her husband (also a Minister) had just finished setting up. I have included an extra picture of the inside of the building. It really is like an oasis; a bit of Scandinavia in the middle of Dubai. A very small and friendly congregation; good melodious choruses which we sang accompanied by just a grand piano and a very relaxed service. There wasn't a microphone in sight. I LOVED it! Everything but the sermon which felt very light-hearted and not too challenging..
This was the last meeting till September. Lots of things "close" for the summer over here... Dubai really empties out. Having lived here all my life, church has always been in the evening of a weekday for me, so I was much happier with this. I do find Friday mornings a struggle. Looking forward to the first Wednesday of September now... :)
PS. Edit on 11.6.15: NO IDEA why, but I just can't get the extra photo of the inside to stick. I've uploaded it three times!!! Anyone else experienced this problem?
Update: 11/4/16
Finally been able to add the extra! :D Thanks Annie!
