History Felled

Work began at 8.00am today on this beautiful Horse Chestnut tree in Saville Park.
How sad that a tree of such magnificence, in this day and age, should be completely obliterated.
It has been there for circa 200 years and given huge pleasure to many, so sad that it has to come down completely,due to a large vertical crack. Should the council have pruned this tree at some stage in the past it may have survived to see another century.
