Weird World War One whittling ....
Was in Lancaster Ciy Museum today and couldn't help but sneak a snap of this group of carved bones. I believe they were made by interned Germans ... waiters, sailors, musicians and the like .... stuck in the town's PoW camp in1915-16. I was told, years ago, that a welfare organisation helped to set this 'craft work' up so the prisoners of war could make some cash. Can you imagine having one of these in the middle of your mantlepiece?!
