Chalk fragrant orchid
A quick after work trip to inspect my Heath spotted orchids, and then to Box Hill to see if the Chalk Fragrant orchids were in flower now, and as you can see they are!
The Chalk (or common) fragrant orchid Gymnadenia conopsea, grows as the name suggests on chalk grassland, in this case with Common twayblades, Man orchids, and Common spotted orchids, and is also as the name suggests scented.
The flower spikes are long, with many purply pink (or white)flowers with long spurs.
I like these little orchids, and sitting among them the smell is lovely...they are difficult to photograph though!
