Surface tension

A fly standing on the surface of a pool of water in one of the pots in the back yard. Although it seemed to have the knack of this impressive feat it clearly wasn't really feeling at home there and was mainly remaining very still in the manner of someone on a sheet of ice who has just heard an ominous cracking noise. After taking a few photos of this interesting spectacle (and wondering how much a proper macro lens costs) I did rescue the fly which climbed with some relief onto the end of a small twig.

Another damp, cold and rainy day today - and it's not even a bank holiday.
