Gamle Stavanger

The Blip is of Old (Gamle) Stavanger which is believed to be Europe’s largest collection of 18th century wooden buildings which have been restored to their original condition. Beautiful sunny day, lots of blue sky but a cold bitter wind keeping the temperature around 10 degrees C.

We visited St, Svithun’s Cathedral built in the Anglo-Norman style between 1100 and 1150, an Iron Age Farm (Jernaldegarden) and the Ullandhaug Viewpoint for a panoramic view of the Jaeren countryside and Ryfylk Mountains to the east and of Hafrsfjord to the west. Apparently there was 11 feet of snow in the mountains yesterday and the main road through the mountains is closed. Not a problem for us.
