Back-blip: Anti-Tank Blocks at Druridge Bay

We've lots of family visiting this weekend for the UK celebration of Son #1's wedding (3 weeks ago in West Virginia).

Today we had a trip up the Northumberland Coast. This photo is taken on the magnificent (and almost deserted) Druridge Bay beach. These concrete blocks are still a common site along local beaches; they date from WW2 when they were installed to help prevent a German coastal invasion. They're gradually sinking in, or just being covered by, loose sand.

We also visited Warkworth Castle, which impressed our son's new American mother-in-law! I've posted an "Extra" photo of the Great Tower of the castle, taken from within the vault which lay under the (now-ruined) church. The Tower was was commissioned by Henry Percy, 1st Earl of Northumberland, in 1377.
