What is it?!?!?

Ok people a little help. I found the emerging in my backyard today. It almost looks like a hard boiled egg but.... It is soft to the touch at least the brown "egg" looking part is. I'm thinking it might be a morel mushroom? But I've never seen the at this state. Any guesses out there?
