Godparents
After church I drove over to Wallingford (I found out it has an outdoor pool for future reference) to see C and J, whom I haven't seen for many months. We had a very nice lunch at the Old Post Office (coincidentally run by the same company who runs last Sunday's lunchtime eatery, The Akeman Inn). We took a brief turn around Wallingford town afterwards as I've never been before and very nice it is too. They pointed out all the places which feature in Midsummer Murders!
We had a long catch up on news. They seem to be settled into their new home, 10 months on, though I think C is still quite sad about leaving the old place. They've recently been to Albania with Jules Verne which they really enjoyed. Apparently it is very beautiful and undeveloped.
C showed me a handwritten medical diary written by an army doctor in the 1840s which she turned up in the archives of Reading Hospital. She is hoping to publish it and research him further. There were plenty of gruesome accounts of the effects of VD, births gone wrong, how to treat gunshot wounds and all sorts of other stuff. He also seems to have seen the world, St Helena, St Lucia, Dublin, Sunderland... C is very involved with this and it seems to be keeping her mind very occupied, ten years into retirement. She's even giving a paper on it at the Anglo-French Medical Conference in the Autumn.
I came home for 7.30ish, have made my breakfast juice and am prepping for a busy week at work.
I've eaten differently today than of recent days, more carbs. I'm really noticing it and feel physically more bloated, not pleasant. I'd have been much better off having a juice this morning rather than breakfast on the go in the car. Interesting. I think I'm slowly improving my habits. I definitely want to eat better tomorrow.
I've invited P to come and do three hours paid gardening with me on Tuesday afternoon to help me get the garden into shape and perhaps re-design it a bit. I'm hoping that by having him here to do some of the harder work it'll encourage me to get out there a bit more too.
