The Kelpies

Today's the day ....................... for horse power

These incredible 30 metre high metal structures have been blipped many times - but nothing can really prepare you for the sheer scale and elegance of them when you see them for yourself in the flesh so to speak.

Kelpies are mythological transforming beasts possessing the strength and endurance of 100 horses.  They were chosen by Scottish Canals to represent the transformational change of the landscape, endurance of the inland waterways and the strength of the community in this part of Scotland.  It was the vision of Andy Scott, the sculptor to pay homage to the heavy horse of Scottish industry and economy, pulling the wagons and ploughs, barges and coalships that shaped the structural layout of the area.

If you get the chance, go and see them.  They are magnificent .....................
