Garden Party

We travelled to Oxfordshire today for a garden party to celebrate the life of Sheila Kitzinger – “childbirth educator, anthropologist, feminist and influential figure in the natural childbirth movement”.

The party was held at Sheila’s home, Standlake Manor and was attended by some 80 people. In the tradition of Sheila lovely vegetarian food was produced for lunch. Afterwards a number of those attending shared their experiences of and anecdotes about Sheila. There were all given, as requested by Sheila’s husband, Uwe, as a celebration of Sheila life and work. Three of Sheila’s daughters were present and it was good to see them all.

Today’s blip is of the Manor from the walled garden. The oldest part of the house is 15c (built for the Yate family), a fire place and chimney was added in 1600 and various additions have been made to the house in the 17c, 18c and 19c.

Extras: Fire Place in the sitting room and one of Sheila’s Batiks
