The beach in Reykjavík looks nice and summery, but it was ca 10 °C and windy. I don't know how these people could go into the sea that was probably around the same temperature.
We visited an event called "the people's meeting", but could not stay long as we had an impatient two year old with us. She liked the beach much better.
