Astrantia Maxima

Working in the Dell this afternoon. Planted some more hostas and a cranesbill. Lots of weeding and cutting back. It's beginning to look quite lush and green.
Joint effort for dinner this evening: home grown spinach used in creamed spinach atop baked cheese polenta. It was an adaptation of a recipe in the Telegraph in which we substituted spinach for nettles. I understand that nettles are good for you but, having removed so many from the garden, and still bearing the scars, I can't be tempted to eat them. However, if anybody needs a good and regular supply .....
The Astrantia Maxima is just beginning to flower and I picked a handful for the house. I wanted to show the subtle pink and the pearlescent green at the back of the petals as well as the interesting flower shape.
