Burano is a little island in the lagoon whose charm has been greatly aided by the vibrant colours the owners paint their houses. It is a popular tourist spot because of it. But in Australia for some reason most people react with some fear of bright colours 'but what if your neighbour paints their house a terrible colour?' There must be a word for it. Why is conformity so prized in housing especially ugly rows of townhouses.
