Holy Family Parish Church

Built in 1912 after fires destroyed Fernie and the original church in 1904 and 1908. After the 1904 fire, the city issued a directive that all buildings must be built of stone or brick. That didn't save the city because the 1908 fire was so intense that the brick and mortar couldn't withstand it. Again, Fernie rose from the ashes: buildings of stone or brick grace its streets...rather grand for a rough and tumble frontier coal mining town as it was then. The extras show a couple of the beautiful windows in the church.
On the way home, driving the Crow's Nest Highway (Highway 3), we pass through the devastation of the Frank Slide. Buried beneath the rubble is the town of Frank.
