little green apples

I get back from the gym around lunchtime and the house is quiet. Quieter than it’s been in days.  Dan and Kelly are at work, their friend Alysia left this morning to return home to Melbourne and Anniemay is out on a bike ride with one of her ‘Ride the Night’  buddies.

I wander round the garden looking for something to blip.  We seem to have a lot of apples this year.

It’s fun when they’re all around - we really do laugh a lot - but it’s tiring as well.  I put my feet up for 20 winks because the respite won’t last long. Indeed - as I type this I hear the door open signalling Anniemay’s return. She feigns sweat but admits that they’ve sat in cafes more than sat on their saddles.

I’m being unfair of course - she’s already been out on her bike this morning.  It was Kelly’s first day of cycling to work so Anniemay went with her to show her the way.

I sit for a bit longer listening to Anniemay telling me about her bike ride(s) before thinking about supper.  My vegetarian repertoire is beginning to run out of steam - like me.

Then Anniemay’s off again - she’s going to cycle back to Kelly’s workplace and ride home with her.  We hope she’ll be able to manage on her own tomorrow.

I finish my 20 winks and then put the oven on.  Roasted vegetables and feta cheese with rice and quinoa and a green salad from the garden.  But no apples.  Not yet.
