What a relief!
Today we ventured deep into Midsummer Murders territory but were lucky to come out unscathed, bearing in mind the number of murders in each episode. We met friends for a walk around the villages of Turville, Fingest and Skirmett in the Chilterns, ending up with a very nice pub lunch in the Bull and Butcher in Turville. The area is used for lots of TV and film productions; Midsummer Murders is filmed here, Turville is home to 'The Vicar of Dibley', and the Cobstone Windmill in my picture was at one time owned by Hayley Mills and her husband Roy Boulting and was restored in 1967 to be used in the Disney film 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'. The village and windmill were also used in one of my favourite war films, 'Went the day well?', in which German Fifth Columnists pose as an English army platoon in a quintessentially English village but are exposed by their incorrect English sentence construction.
Only a short walk of around four miles but a beautiful area with some superb views. An enjoyable day.
