Sockeye Fire

This is day one, two days ago, when the Sockeye wildland fire started in the area of Willow, Alaska along the George Parks Hwy. First staging area was at Sockeye Road. It has since grown to almost 8000 acres and is just over 20 miles south of my home. An incredible network of assistance has sprung up to assist those living in the area as well as their pets and animals. There is a large dog mushing community living there. Well known Iditarod musher DeeDee Jonrowe lost her home and kennel on the south side of the fire.
