Bee orchid

The campus is full of wild flowers at the moment,  but I have to say, I wasn't expecting to see this beauty! Such an unexpected find! 

Id been told the were on site but I'd never seen one until today. I surprised where I found it, as it was just on the verge next to the car park. What was also surprising was how leathery the lip of the flower is. Apparently this is to help the flower mimic the appearance of bee and thus attract the bee to the plant for pollination!
