Travelogue (cont)

As the weather has closed down for a couple of days, with winds of 35kts, there was nothing for it but to stay put. But hurrah indeed, young K from the boat club got in touch with his old man Donald who lives up here, and he arrived to give us a motor around some of the attractions out on the west of Lewis. And what attractions they are. The broch at Carloway (I legged it up though the driving wind and rain to clamber round inside it - most impressive); the black houses at Gearrannan (what a setting - but couldn't tarry as it was chucking it down and very windy); the beach and old graveyard down at Dail Mor (this was a very brief visit as it was well wet); the Norse mill and kiln at Shawbost (it was too wet to get out the car); but most stunning - the standing stones at Calanais which are around 5,000 years old. And it wasn't too wet. Though still very windy. Good coffee and cake as well!
And once back in Stornoway, Donald pointed out his favourite black pudding maker - Macleod and Macleod, as it happens. That's breakfast sorted.
Now, what about a wee step out for a pint. It doesn't look too wet. Well, not for a pint.
