Tonight I went to a talk and slideshow by Shannon Galpin, a bold activist and the first woman to mountain bike in Afghanistan.
Wasn't sure what to expect, but it was thought provoking. Women, culturally are not allowed to cycle there, but a small percentage in the last couple of years have been pedalling a revolution to encourage women to cycle.
I was sitting next to a woman who was returning to cycling in adult hood and she voiced lots of confidence and safety concerns. I hear that a lot and some people think I'm brave for cycling on my own and for cycling in the city too. Not brave at all. It's just a lovely way to get around. I still go wheeeee when I go downhill sometimes and still feel pure joy. I hope she finds her wheels.
