Uncurling

The moonflower, Datura Inoxia, opening yesterday evening.  This flower is related to the Angel trumpet and the morning glory but it only blooms near dusk and usually is drooping by mid morning the next day.   

When it first opens, it has a lovely musky smell but the blooms and seeds are toxic to animals and humans.   I have several plants in the yard in pots and in the ground as they ground very well here in our heat.  The blooms will last until late fall.   For every flower, it creates a seed pod with spines that when dry will have many many seeds inside.  Of course, I keep all the seeds for next year!

The extras are more of the flower opening and two from this morning as the sun came up and as it started to fold in on itself to die.
