We went to Boyton Marshes today - an RSPB reserve on the Butley River near the Alde Estuary, from which there were fine views of Orford and Orford Ness. It was a pleasant walk, although the numbers of birds visible was a bit disappointing - few Avocets and lots of Oystercatchers, with occasional views of Marsh Harriers and Buzzards, as well as the usual suspects. We also saw a couple of brown hares - one almost having to swim as it got caught out by the rising tide. It was good to see more butterflies around today even though it was cooler - Skippers, Small Tortoiseshell, Small Heath, Red Admiral amongst them, but I went for the Painted Lady even though the only place I managed to capture one was on the path, as it's been a few years since I've seen any. There were quite a few Dragonflies around today as well. This is such a good area for them!
