19 years ago...

Staggering that 19 years ago tonight I witnessed, as a young 16 year old, England's best ever performance and result in my lifetime to date - a 4-1 victory over the Netherlands in Euro 96' at Wembley. I remember watching at home on my own (I always watch big important England games on my own as I get so nervous) and marvelling at how well the likes of Gazza (my footballing hero), Shearer and Sheringham dominated the Dutch. We were so in control of the game that we even let the Dutch score a goal right at the end to knock Scotland out of the competition - we were that good. It's a shame in my 35 years that's pretty much as good as it got for England.

Amazing that many of the youngsters that I now frequently speak to about football weren't even born when this incredible game took place and will never feel the excitement following that result. What they will experience is what happened next... us losing in the semi final against Germany on penalties. I cried my eyes out that night
