Determination

I refilled the feeders today and this pigeon was so hungry that it did not budge when I approached quite close with my camera. It used to flap its wings furiously to avoid putting its weight on the perching ring which closed the feeding apertures. 
Now it has developed a wrap-round technique which seems to work for it perfectly. There is not much I can do about it but the fodder is really meant for the small birds. Some lovely little fledgling chaffinches are coming regularly but my supplies are disappearing rapidly. Any ideas how to deter one determined pigeon?!
