Wild flowers

We are nearly at the summer solstice and soon these beautiful wild flowers will be dried up and gone. My garden is so dry and in desperate need of rain, the grass is going brown and dying.

I had an exhausting evening last night trying to reason with Adam as to why he could not go out tonight when he still has a major exam on Monday morning - pure maths 2 - and taking into account that he is spending Friday afternoon at dance rehearsal for SCD and Saturday playing in school tennis matches, it did not leave much study time. The truth is all his friends have finished exams now, except for those poor sods who are doing Further Maths as it is always one of the last exams, so it is hard to keep the motivation going. This morning the conversation continued 'But I am the only one not going out' followed by me 'Yes, but you are the only one who has got into Cambridge for NatSci and needs four A*'s...  It's draining trying to reason with a 17 year old...

Gavin arrived back from Australia today but won't be packing away the suitcases as he is going back to the USA on Monday morning. I have a school committee dinner tonight (with partners) and I think I will have to take matchsticks for Gavin to keep his eyes open!
