Charlie

I was reading Kim Gordon's book this week and at one point she describes how she used to hitch up and down the Pacific highway around Los Angeles as a teenager in the late 60s and she was forever getting lifts from people who talked about this wild-eyed, bearded guy that they'd given a lift to recently. The guy in question being, of course, Charles Manson and, indeed, Kim's older brother Keller had got acquainted with Manson Family member Bobby Beausoleil at one point as well. He was always being told "you really should come out to the ranch sometime" but thankfully, with hindsight, he never did.

So, after all this reading, I came to tonight's movie at the film festival with a little bit more recent knowledge than I might have normally had. And I wasn't even expecting to go either, but a change of plans elsewhere in the house found me making a mad dash to the cinema at six o'clock. Glad I made the effort, it was a pretty entertaining 83 mins. Plus, a friend was doing the Q&A afterwards and I even bumped into leasko afterwards (with her own house-keys for once!)

OK, bit of music to go with the text and title. I'll resist the temptation to go with 'Helter Skelter' but another Manson-themed track seems appropriate (a track which Kim quite clearly points out in her book is not about glorification, something which a lot of people assumed at the time it was released).
