THE HIGH LINE PARK IN NYC
We met Kathy and Rich from PA at Penn Station and took the "A" Train to 14th Street, walked West to The High Line Park. We walked the The High Line (also known as the High Line Park) for the 1.45-mile-long length. The High Line is a New York City linear park built in Manhattan on an elevated section of a disused New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line. The High Line has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway and rails-to-trails park.
The High Line Park uses the disused southern portion of the West Side Line running to the Lower West Side of Manhattan. It runs from Gansevoort Street – three blocks below 14th Street – in the Meatpacking District, through Chelsea, to the northern edge of the West Side Yard on 34th Street near the Javits Convention Center.
Repurposing of the railway into an urban park lined with beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees, many in bloom at this time has created a pleasant area where tourists and locals stroll and sit. We started at the beginning and walked along.....at times in light drizzle. At 30th Street we came upon the Olafur Eliasson's Collectivity Project, an art installation that provides thousands of white Lego bricks for High Line-walkers to build their own mini-urban utopias. This photo shows people at work (or is it play) building a modern utopia out of white Lego blocks!
Then, we walked east to 34th and 7th Avenue and Macy's. Inside Macy's we proceeded to the Stella 34 Ristorante. We had a delicious dinner there! You would never know you are inside Macy's. We had a lovely table by the window looking at the Empire State Building.....except it was cloudy and the top was not visible!
It is great fun meeting friends we have made on cruises!
