Extreme Gardening!!!!
We think this giant Norfolk Island Pine must have been planted over 60 years ago when the original part of our house was first built. Sadly it had grown far too big and the trunk was now only a couple of feet away from the house.
We can get strong storms and sometimes it has been reported as mini tornadoes down the street. So the time came for fearless Alex, the local tree surgeon and his team to remove the tree.
Alex and his team are amazing. First they removed all the branches initially using a cherry picker but then when it became too high and the cherry picker wouldn't reach, Alex attached himself to the trunk and carried on up to the top. They used the branches to build up a cushioning "nest" to absorb the impact as parts of the trunk were sliced off and dropped to the ground. Alex then (still attached to the tree) started to chainsaw the trunk in slices dropping them onto the "nest".
To help you appreciate how clever and athletic Alex is, I have attached three more fotos so you can see the scale of what they successfully achieved with only minimal damage to my garden. Phew!
