Life in a Northern Town

i-eye Day 17:- Waiting

Today is the Great British Greyhound Walk. People organise walks for greyhounds and other sighthounds, all over the world.

I didn't have time to organise a walk, but the central organisers encouraged people to register their own normal dog walk so it would count towards final numbers. I did that, thinking I would just walk Lizzie round the park as usual, and then I got a message from someone who wanted to join me - then another message. Organisers of the walks go to great trouble, they make up goodie bags, arrange, raffles, collections, refreshments and competitions. I had three days and no idea if anyone would come!

So I made up 8 little goodie bags and crossed my fingers.

At 9.58am Sarah, Lizzie and I were sitting on our own in the drizzle waiting and thinking Lizzie would be eating the contents of 8 goodie bags. Suddenly hounds started appearing and in all there were 8 other hounds there apart from Lizzie, so each got a goodie bag (except Lizzie but she's got all the leftovers at home!). The weather was absolutely foul but we had a lovely walk followed by hot chocolate and then we all took our knackered and damp hounds home to sleep it off.

There's a photo of all the hounds in extras, which I can't use as it wasn't taken on the phone!
