7:11
That was the time given by The Weather Channel for sunset in Dubai on the longest day of the year. This cannon which signals the end of the fast (Iftar) went off at 7:15 and boy was it loud. Last year when I went to take a shot of this, my lens shook with the sound and the pictures were all out of focus. This time, I didn't take a zoom lens - just my 35mm, so I've just been able to capture this but unfortunately, I missed the actual time the cannon went went off. This is about two seconds later.
It was extremely humid today. Not as hot; but very humid. Standing waiting for this for even 20 minutes - and I was drenched.
We then went on to change the colour of the stereo I bought on Friday. The green one I brought home was only temporary. I was promised a black one when I went back on Saturday, but it got busy and we didn't go. Today, we discovered black and white are sold out. There was a range of other available colours - orange, purple, light brown, RED etc... we actually settled for PINK! Quite unusual. It is already setup and will take a little bit of getting used to.
And prior to all this, I had a very good start to the week considering it being Sunday. Really loving these shorter Ramadan hours. A new person has joined the team; on the day that another leaves. It's all change this year. And I was home by 3:10 and managed to catch most of "Get Smart" on one of the movie channels! :)
G took my car to Volvo in the morning to get the central lock repaired. I am so pleased to say that Jerome did it while she waited! I can lock my car again! After 10 days of not being able to do it and struggling to open individual doors. I really have to say what a remarkable service we receive from the agent. Never expected, but most welcome and appreciated. G might actually consider replacing her Peugeot with a Volvo!
PS. I should say that the firing of a cannon is purely tradition. When growing up, everyone in the city would hear it (as Dubai was much smaller and not as built up as it is now). This one is fired just a short distance from where I live (500m), yet I don't hear it.
