Kellie Castle
The weather didn't look too good for mid-Summer's and Father's Day and we drove through Dundee in pouring rain, interspersed with hailstones! However, once across the Tay Bridge and into the Kingdom of Fife, there was nothing but blue skies and sunshine all afternoon:-) The Fifers must have been extra good this year!
We visited Kellie Castle and Garden, as when we had been before the Castle was closed for renovation. It's main claim to fame is that King James 1st of England and 6th of Scotland really DID sleep here (for one night only!) However, it was enough for the then owner to commission a beautiful plaster ceiling for the King's bed chamber, at a time when most of the ceilings in large Scottish houses were of painted wood. That it still survives to this day is a credit to the workmanship of the artist.
The garden to the rear of the Castle (see extra photo) was looking lovely in the sunshine, with masses of vegetables and fruit still to grow, as well as interesting flowers and shrubs.
We got all the way back to Dundee before we hit the rain again, but it didn't last long and it's a very pleasant evening now. Hope you all had a good Summer Solstice and/or Father's Day:-)
