Part of the Portrait Gallery's display of recent acquisitions, this is one of photographer Alicia Bruce's portraits of the residents of Menie, a tiny community in the north of Scotland. The village's main claim to fame (only claim) is that Donald Trump threatened compulsory purchase orders on several houses there, as part of his grand plans to build a golf empire. Bruce photographed the residents in re-enactments of famous paintings, with this couple defiantly recreating American Gothic.
