Samuel M Nickerson House, Erie St, Chicago
This is the art gallery of the Samuel M Nickerson House, a Chicago businessman with interests in liquor, wine and explosives; and founder of the First National Bank of Chicago.
The house was built in 1883 and is filled with marble, carved and inlaid wood, tiles and mosaics an decorated leather, in a style described as renaissance.
The House was sold to Lucius George Fisher who re-worked the art gallery as a trophy room and rare book library, adding this stained glass dome
After a period of neglect by the College of Surgeons, the House was bought by a Chicago by Richard Driehaus as collector of 19th century art and furniture, which are magnificently displayed there.
