One species each day (from my backyard)
I took a day off today because a tradesman would come to prepare our kitchen and bathroom floor for new vinyl, but when we had removed the old vinyl, a nasty leak showed up (partly the reason for getting the new vinyl in the first place, but originally thought to have been caused by the dishwasher). So the tradesman went back and I had the rest of the day to contemplate on how to fix the leak. It was bad weather all day: rain, hail and sleet showers, plenty to confirm where the water originated from, but preventing me from taking the camera outside. In the evening the showers were a little less persistent and I had thought of taking this picture before (actually took it, but uploaded another one). So it was a relative quick decision tonight. Here are in fact two species, however. I will reveal one tonight, and keep the other up my sleeve for a little later on. What you see here is the water mould (Oomycete) Albugo candida causing white rust on shepherds purse. At least, that's what it has been called universally until recently. Studies on strains from the world over are suggesting that not all white rusts of shepherds purse are the same, so there may be a new name for it soon.
