Caught in the act!
Did an extra shift in Oxfam this morning. I think everyone had stayed home after last weekend's bonanza, very quiet today. By the afternoon the rain clouds had gathered. Periods of heavy downpours accompanied by thunder.
Preparations underway for forthcoming trip. Case almost packed. Nut feeder filled for the birds and squirrel defences strengthened.
The squirrel however was determined so I spent quite some time looking out of the window to see how he would fare. He tried a few times, sliding down the wire, over the 'hurdle' and landing on the floor. He was running up and down the tree trunk sizing up the situation. Then he made the decision to leap from the trunk straight onto the nut feeder. After swinging wildly for a few minutes he wrapped himself around it and stayed there for ages nibbling through the small holes. The birds had to be content with picking up the crumbs that were falling on the grass.
Quiet evening, more so because Bracken has gone to stay with our neighbours who adopt her when we are away, a great arrangement.
