my name is - Harpocrates

this chap from Egypt is one of the several thousand reasons my blipping has been intermittent over the last few weeks. He belongs to the huge Burrell Collection that myself and two colleagues have been photographing and will be photographing over the next several months.
The Burrell Collection is closing for renovation next year and will be closed for some 4 years. The plan is to have much larger parts of the collection on display in the vastly expanded public access areas.
The photography involves objects being removed from existing displays, or storage, photographed, often from several angles, and then returned to display or storage. The photography is done in batches depending on the size and ease of access to the objects. The photographs then have to be processed/edited and metadata added on the provenance, materials, weight, size, copyright status etc of the object. The finished images are then ingested into a Digital Asset Management system that allows researchers/curators to access them for study and for possible use in the re-display of the Burrell Collection when it reopens... Conservative estimates conclude that photography will run to some 35 thousand plus individual images!
