Fank with a view
Even saw a cruise ship come sailing by while we were working away! If you look closely in large you can see 3 people busy working in the fank. I was off letting the dogs out for a wee walk and a drink since it was a long day.
Up with the sunrise and gathered the sheep in for another farmer and then helped him mark them in the afternoon. This is only half of his hill done as the forecast for tomorrow is for rain so no good for any sheep work. It is a special farm to husband and I as it is the first place we did contract work for when we started that business. The Gather went very well in the morning with the dogs working well. Marking is a slow process and good banter helps to pass the time.
Amusing thing that happened was we were busy marking the lambs and the ewes were making quite a racket bleating for their lambs and I turned round and just quietly said "wheesht now" and they all went absolutely silent, there wasn't a noise. It was awesome, they did start up again after a bit but not as persistent! Think I'm a sheep whisperer!
Oh I almost forgot about the drama in the morning which is the last cow deciding to calve so having to bring her into the shed as the calf hadn't sooked because she has large teats that are hard for it to get hold of! She is the most uncooperative of our cows and this was combined with midge hell which made things really unpleasant. We did manage to get her in, the calf sooked, her fed and watered and off our farm to get to the other farm exactly on time! Quite amazed at that! The calf had sooked while we were out all day so all looking better there. So calving is officially over YAY!!
Just realising we left the farm at 7am and got back at 9pm no wonder I feel a little tired now!!
